Moving to North Reading in 2016 was an exciting time for our family. Like most families we have met since moving to town, we moved into town for the wonderful small town community charm, and most importantly the schools.
I have worked at Raytheon for 20 years as a Software Engineer. Currently, I am a Director for a portfolio of Naval systems. Working in the community is a practice long held at Raytheon and I am excited to have an opportunity to serve our community!
My wife Janelle is a public School Teacher in Revere for over 20 years where she has taught as a classroom teacher, Special Education teacher and is currently a Math interventionist across all Elementary grade levels.
Our son Drew is a 6th grade student at the Middle School. His favorite subject is Math and he spends a great amount of time in concert band, jazz band and stage crew! He plays both indoor and outdoor soccer for North Reading Youth Soccer.
Our daughter Addison is a 3rd grade student at the Batchelder School. Her favorite subject is Science and plans to be a Fashion Designer. She has no spare time given her attention to Dance, Cheerleading, Soccer and Basketball!
We are proud of our schools and the education our children are receiving. Every opportunity that I have, I enjoy spending time volunteering in our classrooms, from Stone Zoo field trips to classroom reading and activities! I have been able to see first hand the outstanding classrooms in our district!
Throughout my life, my parents taught me that engagement in the community is one of the greatest opportunities to impact yourself and the community for the better. In my teens and 20's, I spent a substantial amount of time volunteering as a Boy Scout in our local communities, everything from food drives to highway cleanup. I have spent many years as both a volunteer and employee at the Hampshire Regional YMCA and Greenwood YMCA as a summer camp counselor, swim instructor, lifeguard, and Summer Camp Director!
Since moving to North Reading, I have coached both of my children's soccer teams since Kindergarten, working to challenge our kids and make them stronger athletes with a strong foundation of learning and effort. We now play soccer year round, and It is one of the most enjoyable aspects of my time in North Reading.
I am also a current member of the Finance Committee, where we have had to make major, thoughtful considerations to balance a very tight municipal budget each year. Our budget planning spans March through June, where we meet and discuss the budget with each and every municipal department to best understand how we can invest town resources. During the remainder of the year we monitor and act on current year budget issues, including appropriation for capital items and balancing the town budget.
I hold both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where I graduated with High Distinction.
I was a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Computer Science department, where I received the award for Teaching Assistant of the year in 2004. I have spent many hours teaching lab sessions, research meetings and holding office hours to teach computer science and mathematics to undergraduates.
From 1991-2001 I logged countless volunteer hours at the Hampshire Regional YMCA. I also worked primarily as an after school care counselor and summer camp counselor. In my final year at the YMCA before graduating college, I was the Summer Camp Director for a school age camp with over 150 children, ages 5-11. I was responsible for the budget, policy and meeting all MA state guidelines to run a successful camp experience for the children.
